Use Your Serger for Every Stitch

A lot of people think sergers are just for finishing seams, but it’s amazing how versatile they can be for constructing projects and adding decorative stitching. Join me, Amy Alan, for my new online Craftsy class, Beginner Serging, and learn everything you need to know to unlock the hidden potential of your serger!

My class will start with getting to know your serger and how it works. We’ll look at three different models, the functions that each machine has, and how to thread your machine. Next, we’ll go through 9 different stitches on swatches with a variety of thicknesses. At the end of this lesson, you’ll have your own serger stitch book for reference. After that, I’ll show you all the creative stitch possibilities that the serger has by threading it with decorative materials like embroidery floss, yarn, or ribbon. In the next lesson, we’ll talk about cleaning your machine, and how to troubleshoot common serger issues like poor tension, skipped stitches, stitches separating from your fabric, and much more. Once you’ve learned all the basics, I’ll take you step-by-step through using your serger to create a lined zipper bag, a ruffled apron, and a trendy loop knit scarf. As a bonus, we’ll explore helpful accessories that can make serging easier. Sign up for Beginner Serging, and learn how easy it can be to get more out of your serger.
